"After 8 years I can’t believe how petty the argument was that actually ended it."
acceptable reaction: disappointment at another romantic lead that doesn’t challenge any hollywood stereotypes
unacceptable reaction: shaming/mocking/criticizing cara delevingne because of her body type
Just laughing at all the people bitching about Cara in paper towns.
Same people who bitched at TFIOS casting.
Same people who went to go see it and loved it.
Chill the fuck out they know what they are doing.
I get that there needs to be more curvy actresses to give a more realistic view of the world. I’m well aware that most actresses who aren’t thin get stuck as “the quirky best friend” or even the antagonist. Very few get lead roles. However, this is an industry problem. It’s unfair of us to automatically assume it’s a Paper Towns casting crew problem.
There do need to be more curvy girls, but we already have an industry full of good characters for being sacrificed for appearance… We have John telling us that Cara blew him away and really understood Margo. This undoubtedly means her audition was the best. Should they have passed up the person with the best audition because she’s not curvy enough? That is still body discrimination. It would not be fair to Cara for them to pass her over because of the way she looks.
THAT’S the problem. Too many girls are being passed over because they are too curvy, or overweight, or not white, or not tall enough, etc. Girls who are amazingly capable actresses are being turned away because they don’t fit the ideal appearance for the character. If they would’ve passed over Cara because of her appearance, that would have been much more appalling in my opinion. “Well, we had the perfect girl, but she was too thin.” NO. That is not okay.
The industry as a whole should be casting girls based on their performances, not their appearances; and that’s exactly what the Paper Towns casting crew did.
It’s like I’m reading a book… and it’s a book I deeply love. But I’m reading it slowly now. So the words are really far apart and the spaces between the words are almost infinite. I can still feel you… and the words of our story… but it’s in this endless space between the words that I’m finding myself now. It’s a place that’s not of the physical world. It’s where everything else is that I didn’t even know existed. I love you so much. But this is where I am now. And this who I am now. And
I need you to let me go.
Okay. This kid has problems…
